WESTERN MIDGETS RESUME AT PHOENIX “COPPER WORLD” NOV. 12

Garrett Hansen of Manhattan Beach, Calif. continues to lead the USAC Western Midget Series, which joins the USAC Mopar National Midget Series for the November 12 “Copper World Classic” at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway. Hansen was seventh in Saturday night’s 50-lap race at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway Bullring and now leads runner-up Alex Schutte by 89 points in then latest standings.

Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Ind. continued his best USAC season ever Saturday, winning the Las Vegas feature. Driving the Marc DeBeaumont DMS Race Products/F & F Mechanical Beast/Esslinger Ford, Clauson ran down Evan Margeson on lap 38 and led the final 13 laps for the victory. Margeson led the first 37 laps and finished second ahead of Zach Daum, Schutte and Levi Roberts. Chad Boat was the night’s fastest qualifier.

Clauson’s win was his 10th in USAC competition this year, while Schutte’s finish helped propel him past Jerome Rodela in the standings. Rodela, now the third ranking driver, finished eighth Saturday.
