NATIONAL DIRT FORD FOCUS CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY AT VENTURA

From Dick Jordan

USAC will crown its 2009 Dirt Ford Focus National Champion Saturday night as part of the “J.W. Mitchell” festivities at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. The event also features the USAC Western Midgets and the Focus Young Guns (Junior Focuses).

Brody Roa of Buena Park, Calif. leads the California Dirt Focus contingent to Saturday night’s event, but he may have to contend with some “outsiders” since the race results in the crowning of a National champion. Roa has one victory, five seconds and two thirds already this season, although his best 2009 finish at Ventura has been a second.

Kyle Edwards of Fountain Valley, Calif. sits atop the Focus Young Guns standings with three wins this year, one of which came at Ventura.

Saturday’s Ventura racing program concludes the California Dirt season and Roa holds a 53-point lead over Cody Swanson entering the event, which offers 74 total points.
