Wet Weather Provides Tourism Boost For Qld

From JAK Media

Qld has long been hailed as the Sunshine State, a “mecca” for sun-loving tourists, so it’s a little ironic that the wet weather that has beset the Brisbane area over the past week or so has actually allowed time for some American tourists to see the local sites and do their own bit to boost the local economy.

With the first International Sprintcar Series event at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway of the summer postponed twice in the past few days due to the weather, Northern California Sprintcar drivers Brent and Bud Kaeding along with Jesse Hockett from Warsaw Missouri have found themselves with an abundance of time on their hands since arriving in Australia last week. So instead of sitting around on the couch trying to figure out the rules of cricket, they’ve been out and about taking in the local sites to while away the time before the next race.

Motorguard Motorsport team owners John and Vikki Weatherall have given Hockett a tour of Brisbane landmarks, introduced him to a number of Qld Speedway identities and also ventured north to the Sunshine Coast and Bribie Island for Jesse to see first-hand the idyllic beaches of the Qld coastline. Likewise, the Kaedings have spent time catching up with many of the friends they have made on their numerous visits to Brisbane over the years and all three have now headed across Moreton Bay to Tangalooma Island Resort for a day’s rest before the big race tomorrow night.

The uncertainty of the weather may have been causing some problems with the race scheduling but there’s no denying the hospitality of Queenslanders when it comes to overseas guests and while the American trio are chomping at the bit to go racing, they’re enjoying their time here regardless.

A break in the weather around Brisbane today is great news for race fans with BIS Promoter John Kelly inspecting the track and facilities at Archerfield mid-morning and he is confident that tomorrow night’s International Sprintcar Series event will go ahead as scheduled.
