FOCUSES, YOUNG GUNS HEAD FOR LAKE HAVASU SATURDAY

Nick Carlson of Norwalk, Calif. and Casey Martinez of Riverside, Calif. will lead their respective USAC racing series into this Saturday night’s Ford Focus/Young Guns “doubleheader” at Havasu 95 Speedway in Lake Havasu City, Ariz..

Carlson passed 2009 USAC Young Guns Champion Kyle Edwards on the 10th lap and led the final seven laps for the 16-lap victory in the Ford Focus race. Jet Davison finished second ahead of Edwards, Jake Blackhurst and Andrew Mulhearn.

In the 20-lap Young Guns race, Martinez passed early leader Alex Jacobsen on lap 16 and paced the remaining five circuits to beat Jacobsen, Winn Frazin, Tanner Kershaw and Collin Henry.

Alex Bowman of Tucson, Ariz. won last year’s USAC Ford Focus outing at Lake Havasu. This Saturday’s event kicks off the 2010 racing schedule for the Western pavement and Utah Ford Focus Series. Kipp Posey of Lehi, Utah is the defending Utah champion.
