Qld Sprintcar Tri-City Shootout – Night One To Lack

From jak industries.media

Peter Lack rode his own and the fortunes of others to win the opening night of the 2010 Qld Sprintcar Tri-City Shootout in front of a packed house at Maryborough Speedway on Good Friday night.

Lack was number one at both ends of the night, setting Fast Time with an 11.583s lap of the 1/4 mile Speedway to edge out Todd Wanless (11.614) and Allan Woods (11.628) before leading the final eleven laps of the thirty lap Feature event to give the new Quick Time Chassis company their first win in Qld.

The Feature was not without controversy though, with a number of yellow and red light incidents ultimately making an impact on the final standings, not only on the night but for some drivers possibly also for the three nights of the Shootout.

R&R Racewear Dash Winner Todd Wanless led the main race from the start, he and Lack running wheel to wheel for the opening two laps before Wanless pulled away in the #2 Tyrepower/Action Metal Recyclers J&J to establish an early lead over Lack, Woods, Richard Morgan and James McFadden.

The race was just four laps old when the first yellow came out for Kevin Titman who had spun in turn two, and they were out again on lap eight for Brodie Tulloch who had also spun in turn two. On the restart, Woods and David Muir made contact on the back straight and the yellows were out for the third time but it was the next restart that changed the face of the race.

As Wanless picked up the gas in turn four, Lack accelerated to go with him but nearly spun the car and headed infield only to come back onto the track as the pack raced down the front straight. With cars heading in all directions to avoid the #58 of Lack, Andrew Scheuerle found himself turned around and flipping the #25 Ausdeck Patios and Roofing Maxim across the start/finish line. The Steward’s initial decision was to put Lack to the Rear Of the Field (ROF) for his involvement in the incident, only for that decision to be reversed when Lack tried to line up behind Wanless and in front of Morgan and McFadden on the restart.

Tony Wynne flipped in turn two a few laps later and despite considerable top wing damage, elected to push off and take a place at the back of the field for the next restart. Just a few laps later Wynne was involved in another incident when he and Wanless made contact in turn three as the leader drew alongside him to put him a lap down, the result of which ended Wanless’ night and gifted the race lead to Lack.

Allan Woods found the front straight wall on lap eighteen and flipped to bring out the reds for the third time and then with Lack racing under the white flag on the front stretch, David Muir stopped in turn three for the final yellow. There was no chance of anyone stopping Lack from that point and he took the chequers just under one and half seconds ahead of Morgan with McFadden, Cameron Gessner and Kevin Titman completing the top five.

In earlier racing, Heat race wins on night one of the Qld Sprintcar Tri-City Shootout went to Brodie Tulloch (2), Dan Murray (2), Troy Coomber, Paul Morris (2) and David Muir. Tim Garrett won the C-Main from Matthew Butler and Luke Rowell, while Ian Loudon, Brodie Tulloch, Brock Dean, Paul Morris, Dan Murray and Tony Wynne were the first six home in the B-Main and earned a transfer to the thirty lap Feature.

The Qld Sprintcar Tri-City Shootout continues tonight (Saturday April 3) at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway, with night three at Charlton Raceway in Toowoomba on Sunday.
