Fremont Speedway set to begin 59th season on April 17

By Brian Liskai

FREMONT, Ohio – Fremont Speedway will kick off one of its most diverse and exciting schedules in its 59-year history on Saturday, April 17, as the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprints, Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints and Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks get ready to sling the clay on Pepsi Night.

New this year, “The Track That Action Built” will play host to the dirt modifieds on two occasions while the stock cars will battle with the dirt trucks twice. There are also two doubleheader weekends in 2009 – Saturday and Sunday, May 29 and 30 and Friday and Saturday, Sept. 17 and 18.

“We’re really excited about our schedule. We are giving the fans some new divisions in addition to our entertaining sprints and trucks. We are continuing to pay the highest weekly purse in the state and that’s thanks to our great fans and loyal teams,” said Fremont Promoter Rich Farmer.

Last year saw a lot of exciting racing and some drama play out during the course of the season and that will continue in 2010. Will Brock Mayes defend his 410 sprint championship or will Byron Reed regain his throne or will it be Chris Andrews, Mike Linder, Craig Mintz or a host of other talented drivers? Who will step up to take the 305 championship now that Todd Heuerman has moved to a different division? Can Steve Endicott defend his truck title or will Steve Sabo, Cory Ward, Bob Dible, Jim McGrath and a host of other drivers lay claim to the championship? Can Craig Mintz defend his Kistler Racing Products Fremont Attica Sprint Title? Which 305 sprint driver will step up to claim the first ever FAST title for that division? What rookies will be impressive in 2010?

To find out the answers to the questions above, you have to be at “The Track That Action Built.”

Once again in 2010 there will be special events for the kids. One lucky child will go home each week with a new bicycle and heat race winners from alternating racing divisions will hand out a trophy to some little girl or boy each week.

Gates will open April 17 at 4 p.m. with racing action heating up at 7 p.m. Admission is $13 for adults; $10 for senior citizens; $6 for teens ages 11-16 and kids 10 and under get in free. Pit passes are $25.

“We offer a lot of fun and excitement and great food for the money. Come out and experience the thrill of short-track racing and you’ll become part of a very large, fun racing family,” added Farmer.

Fremont Speedway is located just south of the Ohio Turnpike Exit 91 (south of the U.S. 20/St. Rt. 53 intersection) at the corner of Rawson Ave. and North Street in the historic Sandusky County Fairgrounds.
