From Eldon Butcher

Haubstadt, IN – April 9, 2010. The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will be springing back into action May 1st. It will be the first of three ultra exciting events at three of Indiana’s top dirt tracks in the month of May. The Saturday May 1st race date will be an appearance at the very fast 3/8 mile Lawrenceburg Speedway. Two week’s later, on Saturday May 15th, the MSCS drivers will be in action at the spacious half mile Terre Haute Action Track. The tour will then make its first Tri-State Speedway visit of 2010 on Sunday May 30 which is during Memorial Day Weekend. The well groomed quarter mile facility will complete the May schedule of widely varying and challenging engagements. The racing at these three totally different tracks will certainly test the prospective field of drivers that will be contending for the 2010 MSCS Championship.

If any surprises are in the offering for the upcoming MSCS season, then the lid will be lifted at Lawrenceburg. It will be Mardi Gras Night with the MSCS Sprints running for $2,000 to win. The race card is all open wheel with the UMP Modifieds and AMSA Mini Sprints also in competition to comprise the program. Racing begins at 7 P.M. with practice an hour earlier. Series drivers and regular Lawrenceburg competitors will have 2 or 3 opportunities to race at the track prior to the MSCS date. Lawrenceburg Speedway opens on April 10th.

Kyle Cummins of Princeton, IN, reigns as the defending MSCS Champion. He not only won the 2009 MSCS Points Title but also won it in 2007 and 2008. He and Alex Shanks of Marion, IL, are now tied with three series championships each. Shanks ruled during 2004, 2005, and 2006. The other past champions are Donnie Gentry, Mitch Wissmiller, Hud Cone, and Chase Stockon.

Cummins placed third last year in the Don Smith Classic at Terre Haute behind Jon Stanbrough and Damion Gardner. That event was not over until Stanbrough made a last lap pass! This year’s Union Hospital Don Smith Classic on May 15th pays $3,000 to win. It will be the opening event at the Terre Haute Action Track and the first of 4 sprint car races to be held there this season. The show is a stand alone event for sprint car competitors and fans. However Megasaurus, a car eating and fire breathing mechanical dragon, will be performing for the crowd after the races.

. . . . .

Tri-State Speedway’s first MSCS date this season will actually be the third race on the track’s schedule. The special events only facility will first host the World of Outlaws and a co-sanctioned USAC/POWRI midget race. The Midwest Sprint Car Series has been scheduled to provide the action on Memorial Day Weekend at Haubstadt since 2004 and in 2010 the practice continues. Rain prevailed last year. Jon Stanbrough won in 2008! The 5 Memorial Weekend Classics held have produced 4 different winners.

. . . . .

This will be the 10th consecutive season that MSCS has sanctioned sprint car racing. The 2010 season will consist of 12 races. Each and every race including the three shows in May are ready made opportunities to see real non-wing sprint car racing at its best!
