Reidy Adds His Name To QSSS Winners List

From jak industries.media

Seven days after he seemed destined for the win in the East Coast Pipelines Qld Sprintcar Championship Final only to be passed by Robbie Farr on a late race restart and forced to settle for second, Danny Reidy set the record straight with a dominant performance in Round 9 of the Qld Speedway Spares Series (QSSS) at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway (BIS) on Saturday night May 8. Reidy led home Darrell Hodges and Todd Wanless to add his name to the QSSS winners list with Richard Morgan and Kevin Titman competing the top five at the flag.

Reidy, who competes at BIS on an irregular basis at best and mostly at Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcars events and other major races, led from start to finish in the twenty-five lap Feature to post his first victory at the venue since April 14 2007, ironically that win coming in Round 9 of the then named Comp Cam Series. Reidy becomes the ninth different winner in as many Rounds of the 2009/10 Qld Speedway Spares Series, joining David Murcott, Kerry Madsen, Bryan Mann, Todd Wanless, Richard Morgan, David Muir and James McFadden as Series Feature winners this season.

Reidy set the pace of the race from the outset and was probably troubled more by lapped traffic on one or two occasions than he was by his chasers. Only when lapping the tail of the field on a long run through the middle portion of the race did Hodges and Wanless get close enough to Reidy to get a mild sniff of an upset but to Reidy’s credit, he soon put lapped cars back into the middle of the battle again to take that option away from them. Hodges’ best chances came on the restarts but Reidy made it pretty clear he was not going to be a victim of someone else’s opportunity in that situation two weeks in a row.

The race was red-flagged twice, once for a rare mistake by multiple-time Club, Series and Qld Champion Andrew Scheuerle who hit the cushion in turn three and flipped early in the race while running second. The other was for Des Collier who flipped on the back straight on lap sixteen. Collier, who was ninth in the race at the time of his crash, had been running as high as fifth before he and Peter Lack got together on the main straight two laps beforehand as Lack tried to exit the race with a damaged front end. Other drivers who failed to finish were Allan Woods, Paul Rooks, Ricky Mitchell and Gary Finglas.

Round 9 of the Qld Speedway Spares Series provided another shake-up in the points with Series leader Peter Thorley failing to take his place on the grid for the Feature after engine problems during the qualifying Heat races and again in the Dash. Peter Lack, third in Series points heading into Round 9 will have gained some ground on Thorley but will rue his opportunity to make up ground on the leader by spinning early in the Feature race and being forced to restart at the tail and then recording a DNF against his name. The driver who will gain the most from Round 9 will be Richard Morgan who trailed Thorley by fifty-five points and will now have cut that gap by finishing fourth in the Feature, that result ensuring the chase for the Series Title tightens as they head into the final few Rounds.

The next event at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway will be the American Tire and Racing Services Midget Fifty Lapper on Saturday night May 15, with V8 Dirt Modifieds, Production Sedans and support class racing on the program. The next Sprintcar event at BIS will be Round 10 of the Qld Speedway Spares Series on Saturday May 22.
