NZ Champion Michael Pickens Heads All-Star Field For BIS 50 Lapper

From jak industries.media

Three-time and reigning New Zealand Midget Champion Michael Pickens heads an all-star field for this weekend’s American Tire and Racing Services Fifty Lap Midget Classic at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway, a field that includes Australian Champion Nathan Smee, defending event winner Mark Brown and 2010 Chilibowl Rookie Of The Year Brad Mosen.

Pickens has swept all before him in last two starts on Australian soil, winning both the Champion Of Champions race and the NSW Fifty Lap Midget event at Parramatta City Raceway recently. Pickens and Mosen, who both drive for the Ipswich-based Jack Berry Racing/Polar Ice team are part of a five man New Zealand attack on the annual fifty lap Midget race at Archerfield this weekend and given their recent results, the Kiwis will take some stopping.

Australia’s best chances of keeping the trophy this side of the Tasman lay with current Australian Champion Nathan Smee from NSW and Triple X Midget Series Champion Mark Brown. Smee, who won his Title in Victoria in February, has won twice at Archerfield already this season with wins in the Ray Revell Memorial and the opening Round of the Triple X Series while Brown won the 2009 instalment of this event and has numerous victories around the country to his credit this season.

Also representing New Zealand will be five time Kiwi Champion Michael Kendall, 2008 NZ Champion Shaun Insley and Jimi Quinn, all three are experienced campaigners with numerous Championship and major event wins under their belts and are more than capable of taking the trophy with them back across the Tasman. Kendell is also a last start winner in Qld, having won the QSRA Feature event in Toowoomba three weeks ago.

Qld will be well represented by Grant Draney, Brock Dean, Brendan Palmer, Anthony Chaffey, Jeremy Hassell and Sid Whittaker with a late nomination coming in from former Australian Sprintcar Champion and Qld Midget Champion Todd Wanless to bolster the home town chances. Scott Glazebrook from Western Australia and Alan Day from NSW have also filed nominations for this weekend’s event.

Saturday night’s racing program also features V8 Dirt Modifieds, Modified Production Sedans, Club Sedans, Ford v Holden Sedans, Sigmas, BIS Sedans and Outlaw Sedans. Early racing from 4:45pm, main program from 6:00pm.
