7 Drivers Take XXX to Winner’s Circle

By Kaleb Hart

Seven drivers took their XXX chassis to victory lane over the weekend. Matt VanDerSys won his third main event in a row at Skagit Speedway in Washington, where fellow Team XXX member Mack Brown won his first career feature. Dan Hall piloted his XXX to the win at Butler Speedway in Michigan. Chris Graf and Frank Phipps both took their XXX chassis to wins in Minnesota. And Tyler Thomas & Blake Jenkins won three main events over the weekend in ASCS 2 action in Oklahoma.

Skagit Speedway once again saw XXX chassis take home victories, as Matt VanDerSys won his third main event in four tries at the 3/10 mile track this year in the Sportsman Sprint division. VanDerSys picked his way forward from his sixth place starting position to take the point on lap thirteen and the eventual win, his third in a row. Just prior to the Sportsman Sprint main, Mack Brown won his first career sprint car feature in the 360 division, taking his XXX chassis to victory lane after taking over the lead on the 4th lap. Congratulations to both of our home track competitors for defending the home turf!

Dan Hall was looking at his second straight third place finished in the 410 sprint division at Butler Speedway on Saturday night when a little bit of luck went his way. With a green-white-checkered restart looming, the lead two cars made contact in turn one, retiring one and sending the other to the back. This gave the lead to Hall who parlayed it into his first career win in the division in his #11 XXX chassis. Aaron Smith drove his XXX to the runner up position as XXX chassis were heavily prevalent in the top 10.

Defending IMCA Jackpot Junction points champion and current IMCA national points leader Chris Graf recently made the switch to Triple X Race Co, and the results paid off big. Aboard his XXX chassis, Graf used a lap ten restart to take the lead at Arlington Raceway in Minnesota on his way to his first XXX victory. The win extended his IMCA national points lead.

Also in Minnesota, Frank Phipps picked off his first win of the season in the Stoermer Farms #4s XXX chassis. After his car owner picked up a brand new XXX from Kustom Sprint Car in Iowa, Phipps took the car to victory lane with a win in the 305 division Saturday night at Jackson Speedway.

Tyler Thomas made the most of his 3rd and 4th career midget starts, winning both main events on the debut weekend for the ASCS 2 Midget series. Friday night at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa OK, Thomas would lead every lap of the feature event, holding off stiff challenges from Team XXX driver Gary Taylor and Tulsa Shootout champ Kevin Bayer. On Saturday, Thomas again reigned supreme, this time leading every lap at the high speed Lawton Speedway in Oklahoma. Blake Hahn made it an all XXX 1-2 by bringing up second place in his Smiley’s sponsored #52.

Blake Jenkins was the second ASCS 2 main event winner Friday night at Creek County Speedway in Oklahoma. In the restricted 600 division, the Arkansas based 11 year old chased down Will Harvey with 5 laps to go to take his first win with the ASCS 2 series and third overall triumph of 2010 in his XXX 600 mini sprint.
