UAW PRESENTS MICHAEL LANG NIGHT AT THE SPEEDROME

Indianapolis Speedrome

From Speedrome

Six former Speedrome USAC Midget Champions will be honored with special nights this season as the USAC Regional Midgets, Ford Focus Midgets, Young Gun Midgets, and Mopar .25 Midgets compete. This is part of USAC’s Wednesday night programs scheduled through early-July on the famous fifth-mile oval. The Speedrome has hosted more USAC races than any track in America and this year will add to the long history between the World’s Home of the Figure 8® and the United States Auto Club. On June 23, it will be Michael Lang Night at the Races. Michael is a big part of our history book and we are very proud to have him back at the Speedrome.

The Speedrome/USAC record book seemingly revolves around this star from the 1990’s, Michael Lang. After a decade or so learning his craft against the best in the Regional Midget series, he blasted into Speedrome dominance. The veteran driver has made the track his personal playground over the years. He owns the mark for most division championships with five (1994 to 1997 and 1999), most consecutive titles with four, and all-time feature victories with 54. That main event win total is nearly double of his closest rival. Lang was also a four-time series runner-up. Michael was a model of speed and sportsmanship on the historic short track.

Last time out on June 9th, USAC saw an amazing finish in the Ford Focus Midget feature when Joe Ligouri vaulted from third to first in the final few turns of the 40-lap event. Tyler Cottongim was second with Jake Blackhurst third. The USAC Regional Midget main had point leader Dalton Armstrong best Kyle Hamilton and Ali Jackson at the finish of 50-laps. The Ford Focus Young Guns saw Ross Rankine back in the winner’s circle over Gage Walker and Cooper Clouse. And finally in the Mopar.25 Midgets, it was Rankine taking his second feature of the night this time over Griffin Brown and Adam Thomason. Fans, your admission for this mid-week extravaganza is a bargain. Adult tickets are just $10 with children ages 12 & under free.

Upcoming 2010 USAC Night at the Races Honorees (each legend will be on hand at the event)
June 30 – 1990, 1991 and 1992 Speedrome USAC Midget Champion Ted Hines
July 7 – 1981, 1986, and 1987 Speedrome USAC Midget Champion Mack McClellan

The June 23 event will see preliminary heats begin at 7:15pm after an hour plus hot lap session. Then the feature lineup will see 40-laps for Ford Focus Midgets, main events for the Mopar .25 Midgets, a traditional 50-lapper for the USAC Regional series, and the capper for the new Ford Focus Young Gun cars. So far the open wheel campaign has seen some awesome young talent take to the track. The show has also had some big names in the world of Motorsports take in the agenda. You just never know who will show up and race on Wednesday nights. The Speedrome is proud to have USAC back in 2010. For more information, you can visit www.usacracing.com or www.speedrome.com.
