RARE OPEN WHEEL DOUBLE-HEADER AT BLOOMINGTON FRIDAY

Bloomington Speedway

From Ron Green

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Tuesday, June 15, 2010 – A race track that serves up Sprint Cars and Midgets on the same night is like a restaurant that occasionally features surf & turf on its menu; it’s a rare treat.

Fans of short track, open wheel racing can feast on that juicy main course Friday night, June 18 at Bloomington Speedway when the Grimes Pool and Spas Sprint Cars share the red clay ¼-mile oval with the USAC Mopar National Midgets, part of Indiana Midget Week.

Friday night is the third of five straight nights of Hoosier midget racing. Indiana Midget Week kicks off at Gas City Speedway, Wednesday night, June 16 and will stop at Lincoln Park Speedway Thursday night before arriving in Bloomington Friday. Noblesville, Ind.’s Bryan Clauson is the defending Indiana Midget Week champion.

As winner of the last USAC Midget race at Bloomington in July 2009, and as the current Mopar National Midget points leader, Clauson will sign-in at the pit gate Friday night with a bulls-eye on his back. And the list of drivers gunning for him includes Jerry Coons, Jr., Dave Darland, Bobby East, Darren Hagen, Tracey Hines, Brad Kuhn and Brad Sweet.

In the Grimes Pools and Spas Sprint cars, Jeff Bland, Jr., from Springville, Ind., holds a seven-point lead over Dickie Gaines, from Mitchell, Ind. Bland has 226 points to Gaines’ 219, while Bloomington’s Jon Sciscoe is third with 207 heading into Friday.

Spectator gates for Indiana Stoneworks Night open at 5:30 p.m., hot laps are at 6:30 with racing beginning at 7:30. General admission is $20 for adults, and kids under 12 are always FREE general admission at Bloomington Speedway with a general admission paying adult.
