From Lonnie Wheatley, LAWTON, Okla. (July 10, 2010) – Sean McClelland struck a blow for the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Regional forces by topping the third round of the ASCS Red River Challenge at Lawton Speedway on Saturday night.
The past ASCS Sooner Region champion led all 25 rounds of the ASCS Sooner vs. Lone Star main event en route to his 13th career overall ASCS feature win and first since a Sooner score in Oklahoma City in August of 2008.
McClelland held off defending ASCS Sooner champ Joe Wood, Jr., in the final rounds for the win, with Wood, Jr., settling for runner-up honors after starting 18th.
Kolt Walker led the ASCS Lone Star forces with a third place finish, with fellow Texas shoes Scot Reneau and Martin Edwards rounding out the top five.
Sooner shoe Chris Lloyd, two-time Sooner champ Brian McClelland, current Lone Star points leader Eric Baldaccini, past Sooner champion Danny Jennings and Lone Star rep John Ricketts completed the top ten.
Edwards, Kevin Ramey, Baldaccini and Robert Sellers topped heat race action for the 28-car field, with Ricketts winning the “B” Main. Sellers was unable to fire for the main event, while Ramey turned over while running among the top five.
