July 13, 2010 – For the second weekend in a row, Brian Brown and the Brian Brown Racing FVP #21 team picked up an ASCS-Midwest victory in the state of Nebraska. This one came Sunday night at the Boone County Raceway in Albion. The win was definitely welcome after a tough Twin Features night at the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday.
Brian’s first perceptions of the race track on Sunday were good. “The track is really cool,” he says. “Most fair tracks are ½ miles, but Albion is a small 3/8 with some banking and long straightaways. We were just good from the get-go. Chad (Morgan) and Kelby (Hopkins) worked their butt off.”
The format was different than the usual passing points system, because of the size of the field. “They had 15 cars, so they ran the Sprint Bandit format with the heats (which he won) and qualifiers (second) and we did well in them,” says Brian. “That put us in the redraw, and we drew eight out of eight.”
The draw didn’t hurt the Grain Valley, Missouri driver in the least, as he was patient and took the lead from Doug Lovegrove on a lap 13 restart. “We had our Ostrich motor working really well, and we were patient,” says Brian. “We were methodically able to work our way through there. As bad as we ran at Knoxville on Saturday, it was just good to come back Sunday and get the win.”
On Saturday night, Twin Features at Knoxville was crucial in the season points’ race, and though Brian did finish both features (unlike last year), he was disappointed in the results. “Twin features is always a tough situation and you have to be on your game. We just didn’t have the speed to qualify the way we like (14th quick).”
After winning his heat, Brian started 13th in the first feature and struggled forward to ninth at the checkers. “We just weren’t good in that first feature,” he says. “There’s no reason to sugarcoat it. It could have been worse though. Last year, we dropped out while leading.”
The 2007 track champion would finish where he started in the second feature (11th). “The second one…we good a bad start,” says Brian. “There was a push in the car. It’s probably as bad as I’ve been at Knoxville for four or five years. I wish we could go back and do it over, but I know we can’t. We’ll just work extra hard to get ready for this week.”
Starting this Saturday, four weekly shows remain at Knoxville before the Nationals. Six total weekly shows remain, as Brian continues to battle Don Droud Jr. in the Knoxville Championship Cup Series. As always, the focus for the FVP #21 team is on the Nationals. “We’ve got a month to get ready for the 410 Nationals,” says Brian. “I feel like we have a good shot at it, but we’ve got a lot of work to do before then. We’re going to do whatever it takes to get it done.”

Elizabeth Worley asks: What do you do when you arrive at a new track like Albion?
Brian answers: We take a look at the track and Chad puts a set-up on where he thinks we need to be. We seem to go good on the new tracks when other guys are struggling. Honestly, I think we had the best car there on Sunday. When a track like Albion pays $3,000, you have to take advantage of those situations, and I think the team did a good job.

Brian’s win at Albion was his sixth of the season. He recorded seven in 2009. As always, the goal is 20 wins. He won 15 features in 2007 when he won the Knoxville 410 track championship. He also earned hard-charger honors in the Knoxville Nationals finale, which he qualified for the first time.
