FAST 305 Championship Title Hunt Gets Intense With Just Three Events Left

From Scott Porter

MAUMEE, OH (8-4-10) — When the Fremont/ Attica Sprint Title (FAST) 305 Championship Series competitors take to the track for their July 23rd make-up feature at Attica Raceway Park on Friday, August 6th it will be elbows up for all 25-laps as each lap and position will play a key role in determining the series’ inaugural champion. With a $1,000 champion’s share of the purse plus a $500 gift certificate to All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads & FREE Triple-X Race Components Chassis up for grabs the racing action should be wild over the final three events.

Currently Stuart Brubaker holds a slim 8-point advantage over D.J. Foos atop of the points for the FAST 305 Championship Series presented by Kear’s Speed Shop & Cleveland Golf. Brubaker, who picked up a FAST 305 win back on May 15th at Fremont, has been the most consistent driver and averages a 5th place finish thanks to three Top-5 finishes to date. Brubaker also leads the 305 Sprint Car point standings at Fremont Speedway and has let it be known the B&L Racing team is out for championships in 2010.

D.J. Foos has been on fire in 2010 at Attica Raceway Park and is the only two-time winner in the FAST 305 Championship Series. While four Top-10 finishes have helped the Fremont, Ohio native climb into 2nd place, the unfortunate finishes of 13th & 18th at Fremont have given the driver of the Burger King, R&R Auto Wrecking backed #11F an average finish of 7th so far in 2010. With two of the three features remaining at Attica, Foos will surely be found on the hammer powering around the high side and possibly to a FAST 305 championship run.

Sitting only 16-points out of first in 3rd place is Nate Dussel. While Dussel may be the only driver in the Top-5 without a win during FAST 305 Championship Series action the driver of the Berrier Fabrication, Dussel Welding backed #1 looks to carry over the momentum of his win last Saturday night at Fremont into the final three events. Dussel started off the inaugural FAST 305 season by rattling off five consecutive Top-10 finishes before finishing 12th at Fremont on July 24th.

Just 4-points behind Dussel is Paul Weaver who picked up the inaugural FAST 305 Championship Series feature win back on May 14th at Attica Raceway Park. The veteran of sprint car racing has averaged a 7th place finish so far in 2010, while picking up a pair of Top-5 finishes at Attica, as well as a pair of 7th place runs at Fremont.

In 5th place is Zack Kramer who sits just 2-points behind Weaver after picking up his first career feature win in a sprint car at Fremont Speedway on July 24th. After suffering a 19th place finish opening night, Kramer has finished in the Top-10 ever since aboard the B&L Plumbing, Fremont Fence, Jenny’s Copper Penny backed #8K.

Jimmy Colvin and Bobby Clark can be found in 6th and 7th just a handful of points out of the Top-5. Colvin picked up his first career win this season over the Fourth of July Weekend and has been impressive throughout the season patiently running the low line to a handful of Top-5 finishes. Clark will be the first to tell you that his FAST 305 season has been sub-par to his usual standards. While he has picked up three 2nd place finishes this year, the finishes of 15th, 12th & 17th have been the leading factor in the downfall in points after leading the series after its opening weekend. The Top-10 in points is rounded out with John Ivy, Josh Muntz and Bill Kraylek.

A welcome addition to the FAST 305 Championship Series nights for the drivers has been the Kear’s Speed Shop $100 FAST Cash Bonus. Eligible drivers (those carrying the Kear’s Speed Shop 305 Challenge decal) who finish in the Top-3 have the chance of winning an extra $100 cash if their finishing position is drawn by pill draw by the feature winner. Currently Bobby Clark, Josh Muntz, Nate Dussel, Paul Weaver, Jimmy Colvin and Dustin Dinan have been the beneficiary of the bonus thanks to Shirley Kear and the gang at Kear’s Speed Shop. The money from the June 5th rain out will be redistributed into the FAST 305 point fund.

After the make-up feature this Friday night the FAST 305 Championship Series presented by Kear’s Speed Shop & Cleveland Golf have just two events left on the schedule. The series will take a hiatus before returning to Attica Raceway Park on Saturday, August 28th for a full night of racing. The series’ inaugural champion will be crowned on Saturday, September 11th at Fremont Speedway along side the Kistler Racing Products FAST Champion for the 410 sprint car series.
