The inaugural USAC “20-10 Asphalt Midget Finals” is set for October 16 as part of Toledo (Ohio) Speedway’s big “Rollie Beale 150” night, also featuring the USAC Silver Crown Championship Cars in a 150-lap contest.

The event is listed as a “special event’ on both the 2010 USAC Regional and USAC/WOMS Midget calendars and will feature the top drivers from both series in what promises to be a very competitive event on Toledo’s challenging 7/16-mile paved oval. An open invitation is extended to all asphalt midget drivers across the United States to compete in this unique event.

The format for this 30-lap race will find 20 laps of racing, followed by an intermission, after which cars will restart double-file and race for the final 10 laps, hence the title “20-10 Asphalt Midget Finals.”

The race for 2010 USAC Regional and WOMS titles has been hotly-contested and Dalton Arsmtrong of New Castle, Ind. finds himself atop both series’ standings, but not with as comfortable a lead as he’d like. He is 22 points ahead of Dillon Welch of Carmel, Ind. in the Regional points and just three ahead of Welch in the WOMS standings.

The Regional series has generated seven different race winners this year, while the WOMS series has had four different winners in five races.

The USAC Mopar National Midgets competed at Toledo in July and Darren Hagen stormed home with the victory. Regional regulars Daniel Bedford, Levi Roberts and Mario Clouser had “top-10” finishes.

The first USAC Midget race at Toledo was in 1957 when jimmy Knight won a 30-lap feature there. The Midgets did not return until 2005 when Josh Wise was the winner. Kevin Swindell, Bryan Clauson and Bobby Santos III have all posted wins in the ensuing years.
