The AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car Series takes a week off this week in preparation for a pair of Indiana races honoring two former USAC drivers September 10 and 11. The Friday, September 10 race is the “Billy Marvel Classic” at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville and the Saturday, September 11 race is the “Jim Hurtubise Classic” at the Terre Haute Action Track.

Shane Hmiel of Pleasant Garden, N.C. is the top point scorer in USAC Sprint pavement racing for 2010. Sunday afternoon he led the final 30 laps to win the 40-lap “Rich Vogler Classic” at Winchester Speedway on “Winchester Oldtimers Weekend.”

Hmiel passed Levi Jones on the 11th lap and led the rest of the way in his Rotondo Weirich/Benic Enterprises Beast/ITI Performance special to beat Damion Gardner, fast qualifier Tracy Hines, AMSOIL National series point leader Jones and Bobby East. Jones led the first 10 laps. Hmiel’s victory gave him a sweep of the August races at the Salem and Winchester high banks,
