KRUSEMAN COMES “HOME” TO PROTECT WESTERN MIDGET LEAD

By Dick Jordan

Cory Kruseman of Ventura, Calif. hopes his “home” track – Ventura Raceway – serves him well Saturday when the USAC Western Midgets return to the one-fifth-mile dirt oval.

Kruseman stands atop the series points, 17 ahead of Alex Schutte and 49 ahead of Robby Josett entering Saturday night’s events.

So far this season Kruseman has a second and fourth in USAC’s Western Midget races at the track in addition to series wins at Bakersfield and Calistoga, Calif. In 11 series starts he has finished out of the “top-10” only once and his last five starts have produced a win and three seconds!

Runner-up Schutte has a sixth and 10th in his two Ventura appearances but four of his last six series starts have resulted in podium finishes.

Josett won the last Ventura outing and added a victory at Calistoga last month.
