Just a week after destroying a car, James McFadden last Saturday night at Toowoomba’s Charlton Raceway bounced back with a hard fought Top 10 finish in the second round of the World Series Sprintcar (WSS) Championship.
McFadden certainly had to work hard for his seventh place finish in the feature race after an opening lap coming together with Trevor Green and Steve Lines forced him to restart at the tail of the field.
“It was pretty chaotic at the start, as cars were going everywhere and I ended up collecting Greeny [Trevor Green] who was trying to avoid a spun car [Steve Lines] and I consequently came to a stop,” explained the AUS # 1 Totally Workwear supported Cool driver, who had qualified for the feature race out of position seven. “I knew that I had my work cut out for me restarting from the tail and also having a bent front axle, but the car was still strong and I was able to fight my way forward and end up seventh.”
Seventh place was certainly a pleasing outcome to McFadden’s night, especially considering the way the feature race started for him.
“I thought that my race was over when I came together with Greeny, but thankfully the damage wasn’t enough to put me out,” said McFadden, who had earlier in the night qualified 12th in time trials, followed by a sixth and a third in his two heat races and then recorded a seventh place in the pole shootout. “The whole aim for this round was to just bank a good haul of points towards our championship chase and it was satisfying that we were able to do that.”
McFadden now sits ninth in the WSS Championship point standings.
The third round of the WSS Championship heads down to Tasmania this Saturday night (December 4) at Hobart’s Mountain Dew Ice Raceway.
In the 2010/11 season McFadden would like to thank his car owner Scott Milling, his parents Dave (crew chief) and Tania, along with sponsors Totally Workwear, Western Diamond Drillers, KRE Race Engines, OMP, Racer Industries and Cool Chassis for all their wonderful support.
