(Riverside, CA, March 31, 2011) When David Cardey returns to the Southern California Home of Major League Sprint Car Racing, Perris Auto Speedway, this Saturday night (April 2nd), he is bound and determined to hit his first home run of the season in the highly competitive USAC/CRA Series.

Last Saturday night, in the first ever USAC/CRA race at Victorville Raceway Park, Cardey hit a stand up triple and finished second in the 30-lap main event. Satisfied? Hardly! This week he is bound and determined to circle the bases and walk back to dugout with the winner’s trophy.

At Victorville, the veteran racer began the chilly High Desert night by qualifying 12th in the 30-car field and he won his first heat race of the 2011 campaign. “I want to thank DJ Safety for the $100.00 gift certificate for winning the heat race on Saturday,” Cardey said on Monday afternoon. “That is very cool.”

In the main, due to his mediocre qualifying run, Cardey was forced to start on the inside of the sixth row, deep in the in the 22-car field. That made it exciting for the fans as he quickly aimed the bright red #59 Sprint Car forward and began a forceful charge towards the point position.

By the tenth circuit, Cardey had passed six cars and was up to 5th. He continued his forward progress to a momentary fourth place spot before being relegated back to fifth on lap 13. Despite his constant efforts, Cardey was mired in fifth until the 19th go around when he passed two cars. He did lose one of those spots due to a yellow flag, but as soon as the race restarted he quickly jumped back into third.

On the 24th circuit the “Dynamite” hit the fan. With an aggressive move that he refereed to as “hard racing,'” after the race, Cardey knifed his way into second, but it was to late to catch the leader and he ended up second in the main event.

Combined with his sixth place finish in the season opener, he comes into Saturday’s race at The PAS tied for second overall in USAC/CRA points.

Spectator gates at The PAS will open at 5:00 PM on Saturday and the first race will be at 7:00. Joining USAC/CRA on Saturday will be the California Lightning Series. Cardey was the CLS champion in 2003.
