ACE Hardware/Union Lumber hosts sprint car return Sat.

From Bob Burbach

Marysville –The folks at Ace Hardware/Union Lumber in Marysville will host the rip roaring return of the MRP Winged Sprint Cars to Paul and Kathy Hawes’ Marysville Raceway Park Saturday. A large contingent of drivers that numbered 40 strong last week will make their return for night #2 of the MRP championship season. The MRP Super Stocks and the Pro 4 Sprinters will also be on the card.

Fans are anxiously waiting for the return of the MRP Winged Sprint Cars after last week’s slam-bang action and the final heart-stopping feature event. 11 drivers took hair-raising rides in the opener including 7 that flipped wildly during the rugged action. Remarkably though, the feature ran off with but a single caution flag in its 100 mph run to the checkers. Champion drivers from all over California, Oregon and Nevada will be at MRP for the 2nd event of this year’s championship point racing season.

Perhaps the biggest news of the week for local racers and fans is the debut of the MRP Hobby Stocks. The MRP Hobby Stocks is the next logical step forward from the incredibly popular Extreme Bomber class highlighted at MRP over the last 3 seasons. This entry-level stock car class will provide a cost effective way to go racing without the professional pressures associated with the other classes featured at MRP. How many will turn out is anybody’s guess, but there are in excess of 20 cars in various stages of construction around the bi-county area.

2010 Champion Corey Hall will try to keep perennial favorite Jeff Olschowka and 20 other MRP Super Stock Stars at bay as he tries for win #2 of the season. Local hotshoe Joel Giusti has won two Pro 4 Sprint Car features since leaving the MRP Mini Stock ranks last year. Giusti will try for 2 in a row this Saturday.

The grandstands open at 5pm. Hot lap sessions start at 6pm with the 1st race scheduled to hit the dirt at 6:30pm.

IMPORTANT: 2011 minor releases must be signed by parents for all minors entering the pits. Concessions will be available. All classes of racecar are invited to participate.
