FORLER NABS SEASON-BEST 4th PLACE AT HUSET’S SPEEDWAY

– BRANDON, S.D. (May 10) – Logan Forler had nothing but good things to say about his first race at Huset’s Speedway.

And after recording his first top five of the season at the high-banked, 3/4th-mile dirt oval in Brandon, S.D., it makes sense.

“It’s fast; you have to be on your toes,” said Forler, who finished a season-best fourth in the 410 class. “It was really racy with lots of passing. It had a nice, big cushion and a good line around the bottom. It was a good little joint.”

The 17-year-old from Lake Havasu City, Ariz., said he messed up during his qualifying run, which ended with the ninth-best time. An invert in his heat race placed Forler second on the start.

“I just put it on the top and drove it around the top all the way around,” he said. “We won by a straightaway or so.”

Because he was the first heat race winner, Forler drew the invert for the feature. Of the options – an eight-, 10- or 12-car invert – he plucked the number eight, which meant he missed starting on the front row by one qualifying position.

Instead, Forler started ninth in the main event and quickly lost a position.

“My first couple of laps weren’t really any good,” he said. “Once I found the line I was looking for I started picking off cars. The top was just so heavy that my car was too tight. I just moved my wing all the way back and rode around the bottom.”

Forler gradually worked his way into the top five before claiming fourth place.

“It was a good comeback from Saturday at Knoxville,” he said. “It brings your confidence up, but I’d rather run fourth at Knoxville.”

Forler finished 16th on Saturday night at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, after a gamble in the main event didn’t pay off in the 410 class.

“We tried something we’d never tried before and put a big, huge left rear tire on,” he said. “The track was too heavy to run a big left rear. It made the car too tight. I couldn’t drive it off the corner.”

Forler will return to Knoxville Raceway this Saturday and race again at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday. However, he’ll compete next at Park Jefferson International Speedway in Jefferson, S.D., on Friday night with the JSTS.
