By Scott Daloisio

(Gardena, CA, May 16, 2011) Greg Alexander recorded his third top five finish in four starts at the Gropetti Automotive Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare last Saturday night in the Pombo/Sargent Classic and climbed to third in the USAC West Coast 360 championship point standings. The Gardena, California racer will try to continue his climb to the top of the heap when the series journey’s to Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway in Hanford this Saturday, May 21.

Alexander steered the Chuck Tyler Motorsports #72 to the 11th fastest qualifying time in the 24 car field in Tulare. That put him on the inside of the second row in heat race number two. He advanced one spot to second in the 10-lapper.

For the 30-lap main, the 22-year-old rising star started on the pole and led the first six circuits. The youngster slid back to the third spot before challenging for the lead on a late race restart. Still third on another late race restart, some shuffling took place and he ended up in fifth when the checkered flag ended the event.

The fifth place finish allowed Alexander to jump up to third in points heading into this Saturday’s race in Hanford. He is just six-points out of second and only 33 markers behind the leader.

Saturday will mark Alexander’s third ever time at Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway. In his first appearance in 2008, he failed to finish the main event. His other time at the track was cut short by rain two months ago.

After Saturday’s race in Hanford, Alexander will return to the John Bellagante #23 on May 28th when the Amsoil USAC/CRA Series contests the Salute to Indy at Perris Auto Speedway. In two weeks, he will be back chasing the USAC West Coast 360 title when the series makes its second 2011 appearance at Chris Kearn’s Santa Maria Speedway.

The Chuck Tyler owned #72 is sponsored by Trench Shoring, Barnes Systems, Sander Engineering, Amsoil, Tyler Pool Service and Tyler Family Farms.

In addition to his Chuck Tyler Motorsports ride in the USAC Western 360 Series, Alexander also drives the John Bellegante owned #23 in the Amsoil USAC/CRA Series. That car is sponsored by Barnes Systems, Amsoil, Persall Masonry, and Scott’s Headers and Mufflers.
