– HANFORD, Calif. (May 22) – Another race and yet another top five for Tommy Tarlton.

But it wasn’t satisfying for the Easton, Calif., resident, who finished fourth on Saturday at Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif.

“I was in Disneyland for a couple of days last week,” the sprint car veteran said. “I was hoping to bring the magic with me, but it didn’t happen.

“It was an exciting night. The finish just wasn’t what I wanted.”

Tarlton, who qualified second and drove from fourth to second in his heat race, started the feature on the outside of the front row. However, a severe lack of bite – meaning the car struggled to take off exiting the corners – reared its head from the drop of the green flag and Tarlton quickly dropped to 10th place.

“It was apparent from the first go,” he said. “I ran off the track a couple of times. In turns one and two, I blazed it in there hard and slid off the edge at least three or four times.”

Tarlton eventually worked his way back into the top five before capitalizing on a late restart to capture fourth place – his eighth top-five finish in the last nine races.

“That was the hardest driving fourth place I’ve ever had,” Tarlton said.

The race was co-sanctioned by the ASCS Southern California Region and Ocean Sprints, which are both series Tarlton is in contention to win.

With two victories, a second place and now a fourth, Tarlton continues to lead the ASCS Southern California Region by 27 points over Cory Eliason as the series hits its midpoint of the season on June 18 at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif.

Tarlton remains second to Ronnie Day in the Ocean Sprints standings.

Tarlton will take this weekend off to spend time with his family camping at the beach. He is scheduled to return to the track June 3 at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., with the Ocean Sprints and June 4 at Giant Chevrolet Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif., with the King of the West Sprint Car Series.
