SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Greg Hodnett of York scored a convincing flag-to-flag
victory in Sunday night’s 30-lap Keystone Cup series event for 410 sprint
cars at Selinsgrove Speedway sponsored by Icon Legacy Custom Modular Homes.

The $5,000 win marked Hodnett’s second overall this season behind the wheel
of the Trone Outdoor/Eagle Steel No. 39 and the 12th of his career at the
track.

Nicole Bower of Mechanicsburg was the night’s fast qualifier out of a field
of 27 410 sprint cars with a lap time of 16.743 seconds.

Rich Eichelberger of York Springs won the 20-lap super sportsman feature
for the second year in a row over the Memorial Day holiday. The win marked
the third of Eichelberger’s career at the Snyder County oval.

Selinsgrove Speedway will present a four division show of 358 sprint cars,
late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners at 7 p.m. this Saturday, June 4,
sponsored by Selinsgrove Ford. Dealership owner Todd Benner posted a $200
bonus for each feature winner. Track gates will open at 5 p.m.

Hodnett started on the pole in the sprint car feature and pulled into the
lead at the drop of the green flag. He was chased by fourth-place starter
Stevie Smith at the onset, while second-place starter Fred Rahmer fell in
line in third.

In the first five laps, Hodnett began to stretch his lead to a comfortable
margin until he began to encounter slower traffic, which allowed Smith to
close the gap. The event’s first caution flag unfurled on lap seven when
Jessica Anderson and Danny Dietrich collided in turns three and four.

When the race resumed, Hodnett drove away from the rest of the field. At
the halfway point, while Hodnett navigated his way through lapped traffic,
Smith moved within striking distance. Once Hodnett cleared the slower
traffic, he began to run away from Smith again.

With 10 laps remaining, Smith took a second shot at Hodnett in traffic,
only to have his top wing collapse and force him to withdraw from the race.
In the remaining laps, Hodnett stretched his lead to more than a
straightaway and posted a 6.7-second margin of victory over Rahmer,
third-place starter Daryn Pittman, sixth-place starter Chad Layton, and
fifth-place starter Blane Heimbach.

Polesitter Jim Shuster led the first three laps of the super sportsman
feature until sixth-place starter Eric Walker took command of the field
with a pass in turn one on the fourth circuit. A lap later, eighth-place
starter Mike Enders stormed into the lead with a pass in turn four.

Enders held the front spot through the 13th circuit, when fifth-place
starter Rich Eichelberger made the winning pass using the inside lane
racing off turn four. Eichelberger posted a 2.2-second margin of victory
over Enders, Walker, Rick Barr, and Jason Fry.
