FORLER’S WEEKEND DAMPENED BY WRECKS

– EAGLE, Neb. (June 14) – A couple of wrecks marred two promising nights of racing for Logan Forler last weekend.

The 18-year-old from Lake Havasu City, Ariz., was forced to the pits with a pair of potential top 10s reduced to 19th-place finishes at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., on Saturday and at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., on Sunday because of crashes.

“It’s disappointing to not finish races, especially when you’re running well,” Forler said.

Competing with the ASCS National Tour in the prestigious Eagle Nationals, which was shortened from a two-day event to only Saturday because of rain, Forler had a top five thwarted when he slid into the wall in turn one with nine laps remaining.

“I was trying to make up time and get to the front because I didn’t have a lot of time left,” he said. “You were pretty much just leaning on the wall. You had to be really careful and I kinda misjudged it.”

Forler had won his heat race, which gave him enough points to be in the redraw. He pulled the No. 3, which lined him up on the inside of the second row for the 30-lap feature.

Forler stayed in the top four and was making a move for third place in the final third of the race when he collided with the wall. The impact popped the right rear tire and bent the wheel, and the race was restarted before Forler’s crew was able to change it.

However, Forler moved up to 11th in the ASCS National Tour standings and he is only 24 points out of the top 10. He remains second in the Rookie of the Year chase.

A similar misfortune struck on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway, but this time a little sooner.

Forler again won his heat race and started 10th in the feature. However, disaster struck in the first turn of the first lap. As the field took the green flag and darted into the first turn, Forler and another driver banged wheels, which spun Forler around and broke a radius rod and a drag link on his race car.

The crew repaired Forler’s damage, but that was just the beginning of the trouble.

“We fixed it and I was pushed off,” he said. “I went to get on the gas to catch up to the pace car and the steering box broke. I couldn’t steer and the car drove into the frontstretch inside wall. It junked the car.”

Forler is taking this weekend off before returning to the cockpit on June 24 at Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minn. He’ll complete that weekend with a race at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on June 25 and at Huset’s Speedway on June 26 with the World of Outlaws.
