ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 7/16/2011 – Gerard McIntrye, Jr. tried out a new driving technique in claiming the 25-lap “410” sprint car feature at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night.

Starter Galen Koller called it “spin and win.” It doesn’t work all the time. But it did for McIntyre in the “Pepsi Night” feature.

McIntyre was running second to Kevin Nouse when he looped it completely around in turns one and two of lap 13. And although he nearly collected third-place Brent Marks, both drivers recovered and lost only one spot as Alan Krimes advanced from fourth to second.

“I’m pretty sure I had the car to beat,” said McIntyre upon exiting his Rick Weaver Meadowbrook Auto Sales/Meadowbrook Storage Rentals #85 in victory lane, “I don’t know…Kevin kinda’ chopped me a little bit down there. That’s racing. I spun out and thought ‘That’s it.’ But somehow I came out of it still in third. I guess it kinda’ screwed up Brent there. The car basically won the race, I was just sitting in the seat. The car was perfect.”

As Krimes battled with Nouse for the lead, McIntyre closed again and caught Krimes for second on lap 21. McIntyre made the race-winning pass with a low-side move on turn four as the leaders were coming down to take the white flag. His final margin of victory was 1.03 seconds over Nouse, who led laps five through 23. Danny Dietrich, who started 12th after winning the previous Lincoln race, came on strong at the end to finish third, with Krimes settling for fourth and Marks (driving his first race as the new driver of the Dietz Builders #14) fifth.

Sixth through tenth were Jim Siegel, Tim Glatfelter, Cory Haas, Adam Wilt, and Doug Esh.

Heats for the 28 “410” sprinters were won by Nouse, Marks, and Frank Cozze, who started on the pole of the feature and led the first four laps. Cozze crossed 14th in the feature. John Barnett won the consolation.

“Thank God for Lincoln!”

They were the first words out of the mouth of seven-time URC champ Curt Michael, who scored his first win of the year in the 25-lap Rislone URC sprint car feature. Although he is second in points to J.J. Grasso and scored his 45th career URC win, bad luck while leading and several second-place finishes had marked Michael’s 2011 season.

A four-car inversion by the fastest time trialers who qualified in their heats put Michael on the outside of row one for the start. He grabbed the lead from polesitter Rory Janney on the opening lap and led the rest of the way in a non-stop 25-lap time of 7:08.557, establishing a track record for that distance.

Janney faded to third and then recovered to pass Dave Ely for second on lap seven and ran there the rest of the way. Ely crossed third, followed by Kevin Nagy and Ed Aikin. Rounding out the top ten were Glenndon Forsythe, Kramer Williamson, Robbie Stillwaggon, JJ Grasso, and Josh Weller.

URC Heat races were won by Grasso, Michael, and Weller. Ed Aikin set fast time in time trails over the 25-car field with a one lap time of 14.837 seconds (90.989 MPH).

Hanover’s Sam Gallagher outraced Jimmy Combs in another thrilling 25-lap thundercar to pick up his fourth win of the year.

Early on it looked as if Jimmy Combs was going to finish the job from the week before when he dropped out with mechanical problems while leading. Combs grabbed the lead from his pole position at the drop of the green and paced the field for the first 14 laps.

Meanwhile Gallagher, who started 10th, was quickly making his way through the field and passed Mike Guise for the runner-up spot at the halfway point.

Gallagher ran high and low looking for away Combs as the laps wound down. Finally coming out of the fourth turn on the 15th lap Combs slipped off the bottom opening the door for Gallagher who slipped under for his racing winning pass.

Gallagher led the rest the of the way to take the checkered .81-seconds ahead for his 20th career Lincoln Speedway win.

Guise held on for third, Roy Warehime, Jr. Fourth, and Todd Miller fifth. Completing the top-10 were Mike Slaybaugh, Duane Watson, Will Walls, Larry Neiderer, and Danny Beard.

Heats for the 17 Thundercars were won by Jimmy Combs and Mikey Guise.

Lincoln Speedway will be idle next Saturday night, but in action the following night, Sunday, July 24th at 7:30 for the Annual Premier Auto Works/Auto Locator Night featuring the Lawrence Chevrolet 410, the Keizer Aluminum Wheels 358 Sprints, and Thundercars.
