CORNWALL, Ont., July 17, 2011- Forecasts for the Cornwall, Ontario area Sunday Morning gave all indications that it would be a hot and clear night, but a pop-up storm would move over the speedway at 8:00 P.M. and hamper what was setting up to be a captivating feature.
As the 24 Patriot Sprint Tour cars on hand were being pushed off for the 25-lap A-Main, the skies opened and monsoon-like rain hit the racy ¼-mile Cornwall Motor Speedway, leaving speedway officials with no choice but to cancel the remainder of the racing card for the night.
With qualifying heats and the Original Pizza Logs Four Laps of Fame completed, the feature field was set and will now need to be completed at a later date. Negotiations between Cornwall Motor Speedway and Patriot Sprint Tour Officials will continue this week to find the best solution.
Before the rains hit, three thrilling heats were contested, with hometown youngster Devin Caron easily capturing his first career PST heat win. Lee Ladouceur, another local favorite, won heat two while Scott Kreutter scored his third straight heat race win.
Rookie Patrick Vigneault picked up the victory in a thrilling Original Pizza Logs Four Laps of Fame, holding off a hard-charging Glenn Styres.
When the 25-lap feature is staged, Southern Ontario shoes Jamie Collard and Mitch Brown will lead the field to the green flag.
The focus now shifts back to Central New York for a pair of shows at Rolling Wheels Raceway Friday and Saturday in the Sprint Summer Shootout. For more information, visit www.PatriotSprintTour.com.
