Rain Delays 49th Annual National Open at Williams Grove Speedway

From the World of Outlaws

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — Oct. 1, 2011 — Due to persistent rain, track and series officials have delayed the 49th Annual Morgan Hughes National Open at Williams Grove Speedway near Mechanicsburg, Pa. Rain had been forecasted for several days but officials were hopeful that enough of an open window could be found to run the race. The event now will be run on Friday, October 7, the night before the STP Shootout at Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge, N.Y.

“Unfortunately we were unable to get today’s event in,” said World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Director, Carlton Reimers. ”The rain was just too much and the forecast wasn’t looking much better. We made this decision with the best interests of our competitors, officials and fans in mind. We look forward to returning to Williams Grove to run this prestigious event on Friday.”

2010 Champion Jason Meyers captured his second win in a row at Williams Grove Speedway on the first night of the National Open. The Clovis, Calif. native currently has a 181 point lead over four time champion Donny Schatz in the battle for the 2011 series title.

After the Outlaws take the checkered flag at Williams Grove on Friday, they will roar into the Empire State to take part in the STP Shootout on Saturday, October 8. Tickets are still available for the event at Rolling Wheels Raceway by going to www.WorldofOutlaws.com or www.RollingWheelsRaceway.com. Tickets can also be purchased by calling the event hotline at (315) 834-6606.
