Wheatley Has Rough Weekend with Outlaws

Kicking off 2012 with the World of Outlaws, Austen Wheatley had a weekend he would like to forget about.

“All weekend long we had a really fast car,” said Wheately. “Unfortunately we didn’t show it qualifying, and really put us behind the ball in both features.”

Wheatley’s season kicked off Thursday night in Sin City, and the young shoe checked his Redlined Welding/The Oil Medics/Wolfweld No. 44w in with 21st quickest lap.

Racing his way into the feature through his heat, ‘Mini-Wheats’ lined the family owned machine up in the 10th row.

Wheatley would work his way up into the top 15 as the track began abrasive and slick late in the feature.

On the 32nd lap, Wheatley’s right rear tire blew out, and he came to a stop, and then was hit, ending his night with a 23rd place finish.

Saturday night, Wheatley and his team headed to Southern California for the Napa Know How So Cal Shoot Out at the Perris Auto Speedway.

Qualifying time improved for Wheateley but he just missed the inversion as he was the 15th fastest driver in the field.

Running third in the LCQ, Wheatley’s night would continue to the 30-lap feature where he would start in the 23rd spot on what was a very narrow racetrack.

Starting deep in the field, and getting in line as everyone pounded the top of the racetrack, Wheately wasn’t able to do much and wound up in the 21st spot.

“It wasn’t the weekend we were hoping for, but I can’t thank all of my sponsors, my family, and Paul McMahan for the help and getting me out here” said Wheatley. “We will be back with the WoO next weekend, and hopefully I can get us timed in a little better and give us a fighting chance”

Austen and his team would like to thank King Race Products, BR Motorsports, The Oil Medics, Wolfweld, Redlined Welding & Construction, Schoenfeld Headers, Astro Titanium, BMRS, Fire-Down Graphics and ButlerBuilt for their support in 2012.

ON TAP: Wheatley will now follow the World of Outlaws to the Thunderbowl in Tulare, CA on March 16th and 17th.
