PEORIA, Ariz. (May 21, 2012) – Auto racing has long been a traditional part of Memorial Day weekend, and there will be plenty of high-powered racing action at Canyon Speedway Park this weekend as the track presents the Inaugural Salute to Indy on Saturday and Sunday.

Both full nights of racing action, each firing off at 7:00 p.m., will be headlined by the wingless Sprint Cars of the ASCS Canyon Region, with other classes mixing it up atop the 1/3-mile clay oval including Pure Stocks, X-Modifieds, Southwest Mod Lites and ASCS2 Micro Sprints.

With three wins five ASCS Canyon Region events thus far in 2012, including a March 24 score at CSP, Charles Davis, Jr., leads the wingless Sprint Car forces into the weekend double. Davis, Jr., currently holds an 86-point advantage over Bruce St. James in the championship points race, with R.J. Johnson, Andrew Reinbold and Michael Colegrove rounding out the current top five.

Three-time and defending ASCS Canyon Region champion Jeremy Sherman reached victory lane in the most recent series outing at CSP, the Canyon Clash on April 28, with Josh Pelkey coming off a May 12 triumph at Arizona Speedway.

With three nights of action in the book, Joe Vlasity is atop the Pure Stock point charts with an eight-point advantage over Jeff Carter. The balance of the top five includes Chris McCurdy, Jr., Jody Henderson and Ryan Ruiz.
