Anderson Takes Powri Points Lead: Bacon Leads Team XXX to 10 Wins This Weekend

By Kaleb Hart

Brett Anderson and Brady Bacon were the big movers and shakers in this week’s list of Team XXX drivers winning races and leading points titles around the US and Canada. Anderson rode a second and third place finish in his XXX Midget to take the points lead in the Powri series, while Bacon’s non wing win on Sunday night at Kokomo highlighted a weekend that saw 10 feature wins come from across the country. Other feature winners this week included Matt Covington, who is leading ASCS Lonestar and Sooner points, Jay Galloway, Chad Meyer, Jerry Hammock, Kelsey Carpenter, Rick Fauver, Mike Burkin, Jared Peterson and Chris Donnelly. XXX chassis and components like these guys are winning with are in stock and ready to ship at www.xxxraceco.com or at a dealer near you.

Riding a wave of momentum dating back to early May when he won the Powri Midget feature at Valley Speedway in Missouri, Brett Anderson parked his XXX midget firmly in the driver seat for the 2012 Powri points title this past weekend with two podium finishes. On Friday night, Anderson took second place at Belle-Clair Speedway in Illinois after running third during the early portion of the event. On Saturday night, Anderson was again in the top three all race long, settling for a solid third at Peoria Speedway in Illinois. Anderson now leads the points with a little breathing room as the mid point of the 2012 campaign approaches.

Brady Bacon won wingless on Sunday night at Kokomo Speedway in a thrill of a race, as the Broken Arrow, OK native went three wide to make a pass for the lead down the front straightaway in his XXX chassis. Bacon sits third in ASCS National points as well, with four chances to pick up points and wins coming up over this Memorial Day weekend.

Matt Covington took advantage of mid race misfortune to grab the lead and the win this past weekend in ASCS Regional action at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. With the Sooner and Lonestar region sanctioning the racing, Covington advanced from seventh to the lead en route to his second win in four weeks at the Mesquite, TX based track in his XXX chassis. Matt is leading the points in both the Sooner and Lone Star regions in 2012.

It’s been a whole generation since Sprint Cars have taken on Fairmont Raceway in Minnesota, and after Saturday night’s return to the track by the Jackson Sprint Touring Series, Chad Meyer and his XXX chassis found victory lane after coming from his fifth place starting position.

Central PA has been a hotbed for XXX success, and this past weekend, Jay Galloway took his XXX 358 to victory lane at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown. Galloway took the lead over on lap sixteen en route to the win.

The only lap Jerry Hammock needed to lead on Saturday night at 85 Speedway in Texas was the last one…and he barely led that! Driving the Outlaw Driving School #01 XXX, Hammock assumed the lead coming out of the final turn on the final circuit to post the win this weekend over his fellow Sprint Series of Texas competitors.

It was quite the debut for “Quick” Rick Fauver, as he won on his first night out in the 2012 campaign. Driver his #F1 XXX chassis at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma WA, Fauver led every lap of the 30 lap main event to pick up the victory.

Kelsey Carpenter led a dominating Team XXX performance at Skagit Speedway in Alger, WA in the 360 division on Saturday night, as Kelsey led all twenty five laps of the A Main to pick up his first win of the year. Behind Carpenter, the next five finishing positions were also XXX chassis.

Former SCONE champion Chris Donnelly won the series opener for the series by making a late race pass of Clay Dow in traffic to pick up his first victory of the year in his XXX chassis. The win came at Canaan Dirt Speedway in Canaan, NH.

Showing his versatility as a driver, Jared Peterson racked up his 3rd win of the year with this one coming in his own XXX 600 Micro Sprint. With two previous wins on the year in a USAC Focus Midget, Peterson took home the win Friday night at Deming Speedway, leading the final fifteen laps of the A Feature comfortably.

Our congratulations go out to Mike Burkin and his race team on their first XXX win this past Friday. Racing at Wayne County Speedway in OH, Burkin won the non-wing feature from an astounding 15th place starting spot.
