Brady Bacon rockets to Steve King Memorial Victory

American Sprint Car Series

By Bryan Hulbert

Jetmore, Kansas (May 27, 2012) Brady Bacon entered the 4th annual
Steve King Memorial winless with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car
Series presented by MAVTV in 2012 but that changed as the driver of
the Fatheadz Eye Wear 99 wired the night’s 25 lap, non-stop feature
event.

“This has always been a turning point in my season. Every year I come
here and manage to pull out a win and this year is the same. In the
past from this point we’ve really taken off so hopefully it works out
this year” commented Bacon on the front straight-a-way.

Drawing the pole on the night’s 25 lap feature event, Bacon would out
run outside front row starter Brad Loyet into turn one; bringing the
Washburn Motorsports 0 of Jeff Swindell into the runner up spot.
Bolting to a comfortable advantage it would not be long before Bacon
would begin to encounter the back of the field.

Allowing Swindell to close in, Bacon would use slower cars as picks to
allow time to shift lines on the track when needed. Running primarily
to the hub of the racing surface, the Oilfield Equipment and
Manufacturing 99 pulled back to a half straight lead over Swindell as
the race approached the half way point.

While Swindell stalked the 99, the battle for third would see the 05
of Brad Loyet exchanging the show position six tims with the 45x of
Johnny Herrera finally cleared the Vacuworx International 05 on lap
thirteen.

Fading back to fourth, Loyet would trip up two more spots as the field
raced to the final then laps; allowing Jason Johnson and Kevin
Swindell to make the pass.

With less than five laps left to run the fight for the lead would get
dicey as both drivers worked at using slower cars to their advantage
with Swindell having the pass for the lead secured only to see Bacon
appear to his left side in lapped traffic forcing the fight three wide
and pushing the Pride Ag Resources 0 to the top of the track to avoid
contact.

Narrowly escaping with the lead, Bacon would run the final five laps
uncontested to claim his second Steve King Memorial win in three
years. Jeff Swindell would hold onto the runner up spot with Johnny
Herrera forth. Jason Johnson would advance from eighth to fourth while
Kevin Swindell round out the top five.

Brad Loyet would fade to sixth with Tony Bruce jr. seventh, Wayne
Johnson eighth, Gary Wright ninth, with Jason Martin rounding out the
top ten.

The next race of the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVT is scheduled for
June 8th and June 9th at Eagle Raceway for the Eagle Nationals.
