June 28, 2012 – Brady Bacon was victorious at Diamond Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas last week during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series Speedweek.  The win was the highlight of a week that also saw a second place finish in Chatham, Louisiana.  This weekend the series will undergo a two-night event at the I-30 Speedway near Little Rock, Arkansas.

The win at Murfreesboro came after a heat win from the pole on Tuesday, June 19.  “It was definitely heavier than I thought it would be,” says Brady of the track.  “I thought it was going to slick off.  That’s what it looked like it was going to do, but it never did.  We were able to start up front and win the heat.”

Starting fourth, Brady worked his way to the front, and held on.  “It was a little tough to pass, but the car was really good,” he says.  “It was tight out there.  It was hard to get the car rotated around the bottom.  It was just fast enough that you had to get your speed way up there and come down and get the bottom.  We were able to do that better than anybody else, especially through traffic.  It was a good night for us on a track that we could shine on.”

Things started on Friday, June 15 at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway near Mesquite, Texas.  Brady’s standards are high at the half-mile, and he struggled to a sixth place finish.  “We tried some things there on Friday night that just didn’t work as well as our normal package there,” he says.

The car handled much better on Saturday.  “We changed some things back to normal for Saturday,” says Brady.  “We started (13th) in the same row as Brian Brown, who ended up winning.  I thought we were as good as him the first part of the race, then we had some problems.  We had the brake pads shoot out on us.”

Brady would salvage a top ten.  “I pulled in, and unhooked the rear brakes,” he says.  “I think we went from 22nd to 9th from there, so it was definitely a pretty good save.  I think we had a top three car without the problems.”

Monday, June 18 saw the series visit Jones Motor Speedway in Chatham, Louisiana.  “It was probably the raciest track we had all Speedweek,” says Brady.  “It wasn’t the nicest facility, but the track stayed nice.  The track had a cushion and the bottom was slow and tricky, where if you hit it right, you could gain a lot.  We were able to get by a couple of cars down there on the bottom.”

Brady would finish a solid second.  “Jason (Johnson) was kind of out there in front, and we didn’t have anything for him,” he says.  “We got to lapped traffic and he got bottled up a bit.  We got beside him at the checkers, but couldn’t get by him.  It was a good run for us.  We were happy to be fast.  The short tracks seem to be where we can make up some ground.”

A 15th and a DNF awaited at Lawton (OK) Speedway and the Salina (OK) High Banks on Wednesday and Friday.  “At Lawton and Salina, I feel like I made a mistake two nights in a row,” says Brady.  “That was disappointing for everyone that works so hard to help me.”

More troubles emerged at the Lucas Oil Speedway near Wheatland, Missouri last Saturday night.  “We had a fitting come loose in the tank and chased it around all night,” says Brady.  “Then we had a rear-end issue in the B after getting the motor fixed.  In the feature, where you started was where you were going to finish.”
