McQueen Suffers Rare DNF in Gold Country

From Robert Haugh

Bakersfield, CA – (July 2, 2012) –Having one of the fastest cars all evening, Bakersfield’s Shannon McQueen was well en route to a Top 3 podium finish in the Bay Cities Racing Association event at the ¼-mile Placerville Speedway on June 30 in the McQueen Racing #7 Spike/Esslinger. However, McQueen cautiously pulled the car off-track after a boulder the size of a brick busted through the side of the hood. Rather than risking any further damage with a few laps remaining, McQueen wisely parked the car – upon inspection the rock had severed one of the main water lines.

Having started sixth in the Feature, McQueen worked up to as high as third in the incident-marred feature, despite fighting braking issues throughout the Feature, not allowing her to fully pull off of the corners with the brakes locking up.

McQueen surged from her outside pole position to claim Heat 1 in dominating fashion, winning the Heat by four seconds over Matt Streeter and third-place by a half lap, while catching the tail of the field in just eight laps.

McQueen was fastest in her hot lap session, and also posted the fastest lap in Heat race. McQueen started and finished sixth in a non-paying Dash. There were no qualifications.

McQueen has amassed three Heat race wins, four Top 5 runs and five Top 10s. McQueen Racing also boasts a feature win with Michelle Decker in April at Bakersfield Speedway. Placerville was McQueen’s second DNF of the year only second in her last 25 races.

McQueen carries the USAC-Western States points lead into her next event, Friday, July 6 at the 1/4-mile Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA as part of the Howard Kaeding Classic.
