Kings Royal Recap

From CDR
Saturday the spotlight shined on one of the crown jewels of sprint car racing, the $50,000-to-win Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway, as Craig Dollansky returned to the high-banked ½-mile following a fourth place finish on the previous night.

With 50 competitors embarking on the 29th running of the historic event, ‘The Crowd Pleaser’ powered the Big Game Treestands #7 to the fastest time in qualifying at 13.338 seconds, the 6th quick-time to this point. In heat race action, where the top three transfer into the feature, the MobileStar Maxim lined up outside row two as Dollansky motored into 2nd by the exit of turn two and nearly took the lead but finished in the runner-up spot.

The unique Kings Royal format then put the Aggressive Hydraulics backed sprinter inside row four of the A-Main. When the green flag waved on the main event Dollansky dropped three spots before the first caution on lap 10. Following another caution on the next circuit, the #7 continued to lose power and pulled in a few laps later.

“We had a solid weekend going into the feature the final night,” commented the Elk River, Minnesota native who is now just 33 points back in the World of Outlaws points standings. “It seemed from the drop of the green something wasn’t right with our motor and it progressively lost power as the race went on. We had lost a motor at Lima and couldn’t afford to lose another one. Rather than trying to finish the race I pulled in. I’m now looking ahead and looking forward to the Silver Cup at Lernerville.”

Racing resumes in Sarver, Pennsylvania on Tuesday at Lernerville Speedway for the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Twin 30’s.
