DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 24, 2012) – Brian Herbert gets few occasions to race in front of his hometown Dodge City crowd.

He’ll get that opportunity this Friday though, and as series points leader as well, as the United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS) 305-Sprint Cars take to the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park on the opening day of Dodge City Days.

In addition to the URSS Sprint Cars, Friday’s action will also include a $1,000-to-win IMCA Modified main event along with the United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Poor Boy Kustomz Thunder Cars and Hornets. Races get under way at 7:30 p.m.

After collecting his second win of the season last Friday in Nebraska, Herbert carries a slim 14-point lead in URSS Kansas Region points into Friday’s event. Hot on Herbert’s heels is Hill City, KS, shoe Jeff Radcliffe, who matched Herbert in the win column with a triumph of his own last Saturday.

While Herbert and Radcliffe battle for the top spot, Lance Davis is 202 points off the lead pace in third with Ray Seeman and Keefe Hemel rounding out the current top five. The balance of the current top ten in URSS points includes Darren Bowman, Luke Cranston, Zach Blurton, Mike Spear and Ty Williams.

In the track’s championship chase divisions, Brendon Gemmill holds the IMCA Modified points lead, Bart Baker leads the way in the United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, Perry Misner holds the top spot in IMCA Stock Cars, Dan Rogers is top ranked in Poor Boy Kustomz Thunder Cars and Jarrett Lunow has moved into the Hornet lead.

Tickets to Friday’s event are just $15 for adults. Seniors and Military receive a $5 discount, with children 11 and under admitted free if accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.

Dodge City Raceway Park presents 16 nights of racing over a dozen different weekends in 2012. In addition to the five regularly featured classes of competition, special events over the course of the year will include World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, USAC Midgets, USAC Sprint Cars, ASCS National Tour, NCRA Sprint Cars, URSS 305 Sprints and BST Modifieds.
