Vernon, NY — (August 4, 2012) — A mid morning thunderstorm coupled with a call for more severe weather later in the day has forced Utica-Rome Speedway officials to cancel the racing program scheduled for Sunday, August 5. Upstate Spray Foam Insulation and Big Dog BBQ were set to present a regular show of Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks plus the CRSA Sprints.

“We normally don’t like to cancel so early in the day.” Stated Race Director John Tiff, “but between the storm that came through this morning and the forecast calling for nearly a 100 percent chance of severe thunderstorms this afternoon, we felt like we had little choice. We didn’t want to get everyone here and have to turn them around without seeing a completed program, especially with fuel prices where they are.”

Action will resume next Sunday, August 12, when former track promoter Dick Waterman presents a regular show of Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks plus the annual New York State Stock Car Association (NYSSCA) Safety Night. Also, for individuals who have made great contributions to motorsports at Utica-Rome Speedway and beyond will be inducted into the NYSSCA Hall of Fame. Engine builder Milt Johnson, driver/car owner Tom Williams, Sr., promoter and track official Dick Sweet, and longtime safety official Don “Had” Hadcock will see their names added to the impressive list of members in the NYSSCA Hall of Fame. Gates will open at 3:30 p.m. with racing underway at 6 p.m.
