Park City, Kansas – August 6, 2012 – Leading by a slim fifteen points after six races on the 2012 race schedule, C.J. Johnson of Quinter, Kansas leads the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products sprint car division into their first and only appearance on the season at Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kansas this coming Saturday night.
Johnson, a two-time and defending tour champion, has two victories thus far this season (both at 81 Speedway in Park City) and holds the slim point lead over Wichita driver Jeremy Campbell. Campbell’s lone win came during the annual running of the Hutchinson Grand Nationals in Hutchinson, Kansas while driving for Nebraska car owner Gary Swenson.
Sitting third in the point standings is Luke Cranston while sprint car veteran Mike Peters currently holds down the fourth position.
Sitting fifth in the point standings is current Brodix rookie of the year point leader Zach Blurton. Sixth through tenth in the point standings include Marc Robe, Jon Freeman, Jake Martens, Barry Gifford and Jeff Stasa.
Sitting just outside of the top ten but expected to compete include rookie contender Wyatt Burks, Taylor Velasquez, Jason Martin, Ty Williams and Jordan Weaver. Reports are that former series outlaw sprint car champion Gary Wright from Hooks, Texas is also expected as well as two-time feature winner at the most recently held events on the schedule, Danny Jennings of Norman, Oklahoma.
The past eight races that have been held at the beautiful three-eighths mile oval has seen eight different drivers reach victory lane. Among them, from most recent on back, include: Ryan Roberts (’11), J.D. Johnson (’10), Martin (’09), Peters (’09), Koby Barksdale (’08), Don Droud, Jr. (’08), Garry Lee Maier (’06) and Wright (’06).
Pit gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start time. Ticket prices for this Saturday’s race are $15 for adults. Seniors and Military receive a $5 discount, with children 11 and under admitted free if accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.
