After spending a week helping out on his family car as his good friend, Kyle Larson, competed in the Knoxville Nationals, Rico Abreu piloted his Keith Kunz Racing midget to his sixth win overall, third in a midget, of 2012 at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, IL following a very wild feature event.

Starting fourth in his heat, Abreu was on the wheel as he picked up the win aboard his Toyota powered Bullet machine.

Starting on the front row of the feature event, Abreu rocketed out to the lead, and clicked off some strong laps as he was clearly the class of the field.

On the ninth lap, the Rutherford, CA driver was attempting to put a slower car a lap down, contact ensued sending Abreu into a spin and he was relegated to the 21st spot.

From that moment on the fans were in for a treat as Abreu was poised to get back what he felt was his.

Taking advantage of several restarts, Abreu used textbook slide jobs to put himself back in prime position to ultimately take the lead back on the 26th lap as he slid leader, Brett Anderson.

Over the final 10-laps the 20-year-old driver built up a sizeable lead and picked up his third win with the POWRi National Midget Series.

“This is unbelievable,” exclaimed a jacked up Abreu. “I’m tickled to death to run up front with this series let alone be a contender to win on a nightly basis. This Keith Kunz Racing team has got it going on right now, and we have been in the hunt to win the last few weeks, and I’m hoping we can keep this going. Rick Long builds us awesome Toyota engines, and with Bullet Chassis under you, and Keith (Kunz) spinning wrenches, you really can’t ask for anything more.”

Rico and his team would like to thank Abreu Vineyards, Toyota, ButlerBuilt,, Outlaw Wings, and Petersen Media for their partnership.

ON TAP: Rico is now set for three more midget races this weekend as he will be at Macon on Friday, Lincoln on Saturday and Sun Prairie on Sunday.
