Saturday night had all the makings of a good night for Kyle Hirst, who was back at the helm of the Rod Tiner Racing No.83, however his night got cut very short on the third lap of the feature event.

With 35 California Civil War Series cars on hand, Hirst kicked the night of by timing in with a solid lap that saw him sit atop the chart for most of qualifications, but the track got fast late in qualifying, and he ended up ninth fastest.

Starting fourth in his heat race, Hirst grabbed the third spot on the initial start and maintained earning a spot in the feature event, where the invert would put him in the second row.

As the race got underway, KH fell back into the fourth spot as he chased down Billy Butler and Rico Abreu. As the trio of cars began battling for the third spot, contact was made on lap three, and Hirst was sent in a series of flips that saw him land over the fence at the Petaluma Speedway.

Fortuatnely KH was able to undo his belts, and walk away from what was a very scary looking wreck.

“We got racing for third and got a little bit out of shape, and then it was on,” he explained. “I feel bad for Rod and his guys, but we should be ready for Placerville next week.”

ON TAP: Hirst and the RTR team will regroup and head to the Placerville Speedway this Saturday night for the California Civil War Series finale.
