Atkinson Wins at Sydney

From Sydney Speedway

Sydney, AU — (October 28, 212) — Ben Atkinson has scored a win in the club show final tonight at Sydney Speedway. Atkinson lead home Peter Bourke with Jackson Delamont home third.

The A-Main which turned out to be a marathon on the slick track conditions certainly tested the drivers. Early race leader was Matt Smith who set a cracking pace with Clayton Hart in hot pursuit. Atkinson set out to make his way to the front after having to start deep in the pack.

Roddy Bellbowen was also on a charge until a mechanical issue ended his night. At the following restart, Atkinson’s night almost ended in disaster when he looped it in front of the field and almost ended upside down. He was quick to regather and make his charge forward once again.

Once past race leader matt Smith, Atkinson pulled away from the field. A late race restart with just five laps remaining was not enough to stop Atkinson from recording his first club show final win tonight.

The format for the club shows will see the first three home from tonight’s final start from the rear of the qualified cars at the next club show on November 17.

Australian Microsprint Championship

Les Nelson is the new Australian Microsprint Champion after a dominating victory in the 20-lap final. Nelson took the lead from Mitch Isaacs on lap 4 and was never headed from that point. Sadly, there were some hot NSW drivers who failed to finish including Sean Richards, Matt Rush and Rod Baker.

Second home in the title final was Victorian West Makin with third to the finish line being Cody Maroske from Queensland. The first New South Welshman home was Rhys Marchant in fourth.

The Micros put on a great show and we all look forward to the next Microsprint show in February.

The Super Sedan final was a spirited race with Lachlan Onley taking the win from Tony Barklimore and Bernie Roberts.

Daniel Roberts won the AMCA Nationals A-Main in style from Terry Pankhurst and Shane Anderson.

Finally, the Legend Cars A-Main was another win to Brett Morris from John Morris and Linden Martin.

The next event on the Sydney Speedway calendar is next Saturday night, November 3 when the Late Models return along with the Litre Sprints, Street Stocks and AMCA Nationals.

The Sprintcars return with round 2 of the Sprintcar Track Championship the following week on November 10.
