Good form continues for Hein

By Daniel Powell

If you are ever going to finish second to someone then it’s best to be your team mate. For Mikayla Hein on Saturday night at Adelaide’s Speedway City in South Australia, she maintained her good 2012–13 season form with a second–place finish in the Wingless Sprint feature race behind her Atkins Motorsport team–mate Cody Atkins.

The SA # 55 All States Auditing & Accreditation Services supported Eagle driver earlier in the night scored fourth and second–place finishes in her two heat races and then started the 20–lap feature race from the outside of the second row. From the outset, she made a solid start, but her team–mate Cody Atkins made a better one after he had started in the row behind her. By the completion of the opening lap, Atkins and Hein sat in second and third. When leader and current Australian Champion Todd Wigzell dropped out of the running after half–a–dozen laps with mechanical issues, it elevated Atkins and Hein to first and second spot. For the remainder of the feature–race journey, which there was only one stoppage – mid race, they dictated the pace and finished that way as they crossed the chequered flag.

“Cody (Atkins) drove a great race, and in the end I had nothing for him as he was too good for me, but there’s no shame in running second to your team mate,” Hein expressed. “It’s a great result for team owner Robin Atkins and the rest of our team, along with all of our valued sponsors as they all make it possible for Cody and I to do what we do.”

The 18 year old from Tailem Bend returns to her home track, Murray Bridge Speedway, for the second occasion this season on Saturday night (November 24).

Hein would like to say special thanks to Robin and Cody Atkins from Atkins Motorsport, along with her Mum and Dad, Pop, Michael and David for all of their ongoing support.
