Rockwall, TX (December 16, 2012) —  The RaceSaver® Sprint Series allows for each sanctioned track to mandate right rear tire (RR) rules, as long as the tire has a durometer reading of a minimum of 35.

In 2013, RPM Speedway of Crandall TX, LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, TX and Kennedale Speedway Park (KSP) of Kennedale, TX are making an adjustment to their RR tire rule for RaceSaver Sprint Series cars.

The new tire rule will be: “Any RR tire, as long as it has a durometer reading of a minimum of 45.”

This change means that drivers can still choose to use the previously legal RR tires (the same tires allowed for SST or STS competition), plus it allows racers to use the existing ASCS legal tire, which has a durometer reading of 48. That particular tire has also dropped in price for 2013 and is readily available from area tire vendors or ASCS drivers.

RPM Track Promoter Jason Troutman states: “We feel that this unified adjustment in the RR tire rule for 2013 will help the RaceSaver Sprint Series teams in our area.”

He adds: “It also allows drivers from East Texas and Louisiana to race at RPM without having to change tires. And for drivers that might compete in a RaceSaver division one night and an ASCS race the next night, they can now do it all on the same tire.”

LoneStar Track Promoter Sam Hafertepe states: “In our location, we get an exciting blend of drivers from throughout the region and we want all drivers to be able to compete; and this move allows them to do so while still on an even playing field.”

KSP Track Promoter Kevin Ramey comments: “By having a durometer rule of 45, it will keep softer, quicker wearing tires out of the Series here; as all they do is promote higher expense to the racer. And with the transition of this tire now being used throughout the nation in a much broader level, it’s just the smart thing to do.”

Smiley’s Racing Products owner Tom Lorenz comments: “This move should help the budget racer. For example, there are some ASCS teams that don’t use the full life of their tire before they mount up a new tire, and a RaceSaver team can use those discarded tires and get a lot of laps on them.”

All other existing track rules regarding RaceSaver tire rules at each track remain the same. For example, grooving and siping is allowed on tires; and the LR, LF and RF tires are open.
