SW SPRINTS DEBUT IN PEORIA’S “WINTER CHALLENGE”

The 2013 USAC racing calendar begins in two weeks, with the 2nd “Winter Challenge” at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz. serving as the opening event of the brand-new USAC Southwest Sprint Car Series.

More than $100,000 in total prizes and up for grabs in the six-race event, featuring at Peoria January 25-27 and January 30-February 2.

Among the early entries are five-time Arizona Champions Charles Davis Jr. and Jeremy Sherman. Both drivers could match Ricky Johnson’s six “Copper State” titles with the USAC Southwest crown. Tracy Hines, who won last year’s “Winter Challenge,” USAC National Champion Bryan Clauson, and Robert Ballou are scheduled to lead a strong Midwest contingent. Bud Kaeding, the defending USAC West Coast Champion, is expected make the trip from California to the “Valley of the Sun.”

IN 2012, Charles Davis Jr., Dave Darland and Mike Martin posted USAC Sprint car victories at Canyon. Clauson swept a pair of USAC Sprint races at Canyon in 2011.
