Pleasing weekend for Anderson at the Classic

Despite not achieving the desired result in last weekend’s Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at Premier Speedway in Victoria, Grant Anderson was still pleased with his overall performance.

The Vic # 37 Wagga Mobile Cranes and Centastate Civil Contracting supported Foster driver completed his Grand Annual Classic weekend with an 11th place finish in the feature race on the second and final night. After qualifying ninth for the 40-lap event, he was hopeful of being able to repeat last season’s drive, where he charged from the rear of the field to finish just off the podium in fourth, but he was unable to do so due to setup choice, mainly a poor tyre choice.

“The Grand Annual Classic attracted the biggest and best field in its history, so to come away with a finish in the feature race is an achievement in itself, but as a racer, I still felt that we could’ve done a lot better,” explained Anderson, who on the opening night of the Grand Annual Classic also finished 11th in the preliminary feature race. “I picked too hard of a tyre compound for the feature race; as I thought the track was going to go off more than it, which it didn’t, and to still finish where I did is pleasing considering I went the wrong way with my tyre choice. When I came in after the feature race, the tyre had barely worn any tread off.”

Last Wednesday night at Avalon Raceway for the running of the President’s Cup, Anderson drove strongly to finish on the podium in third. He had started from position six after qualifying ninth in time trials and moving forward in both of his heat races.

For the 2012-13 season Anderson and his team have run a limited schedule, but limited track time hasn’t hurt him too much.

“Naturally, I would’ve liked to have done more racing, but the team’s budget doesn’t allow for that,” he admitted. “We’ve contested less than 10 race meetings, which have all been major ones, and been able to be on the pace which has been both pleasing and encouraging.”

anderson01In regards to the future, Anderson is unsure if he’ll be appearing anymore during this season.

“It all depends on my work in Western Australia, but we’re just playing it all by ear,” he said. “I go back over there next week and I’ll work out if any of the bigger shows and my work schedule breaks fall at around the same time, so that I can get away and do some more racing.”

Anderson and his team would like to say special thanks to Craig from Skwid Signs for all of his efforts in wrapping the car with a new-look colour scheme for the Grand Annual Classic.
