Peoria, AZ —  (March 11, 2013) — After a pair of early special events, Canyon Speedway Park officially kicks off its 2013 season with this Saturday night’s Season Opening event featuring the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars along with Challenge Cup Sprint Cars, Micro Sprints and Southwest Mod Lites.

Saturday night’s card, which goes green at 7:00 p.m., will be preceded by an open practice session atop the 1/3-mile clay oval near Phoenix on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

After tangling with the USAC West Coast series for the Winter Challenge at CSP several weeks ago and again at this past week’s Sin City Showdown in Las Vegas, Saturday’s card marks the initial round in pursuit of the non-winged USAC Southwest Sprint Car championship and the first of ten series events at CSP.

In nine events prior to last November’s Western World Championships topped by Bryan Clauson, Davis, Jr., was the only driver to crack victory lane on more than one occasion at CSP with three victories.  Other wingless Sprint Car feature winners at the Peoria oval included Sherman, Dalten Gabbard, Colby Copeland, Mike Bonneau, Shon Deskins and Rick Ziehl.

Saturday’s action will also mark the first outings of the season for the Challenge Cup Sprint Cars and Southwest Mod Lites, while the Micro Sprint Cars return to action after taking to the track for three rounds of the Winter Challenge that concluded in early February.

Tickets for this Saturday’s Season Opener at CSP are $15, with a $2 discount for Military, Seniors and Students.  Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free.  VIP passes are available for $20.
