With the USAC/CRA series off, Yorba Linda, CA driver, Matt Mitchell, accepted an invitation to pilot the Bobby Ferro No.91 machine, and scored a sixth place finish with the URA at the Route 66 Motorplex in Victorville, CA.

“I was just pleased to get through an entire feature event,” Mitchell said with a smile. “I have to thank Bobby (Ferro) for giving me the chance to run for him, I had a blast.”

With the track slick in time trials, Mitchell made the most of what he had to work with as he timed in 10th quickest after being the last car out.

“The track was dead slick during time trials, and timing in 10th after being last out, was a pretty good time,” he said.

Heat race action saw Mitchell charge the Ferro machine to the front of the field, where he picked up the win, and got his time for the feature event, where he would grid the field in the 10th spot.

“We had a strong car in our heat, and it was cool to see how pumped everyone was when we won it,” he explained.

Lining up 10th on the extremely slick track, Mitchell worked the speedway, as he crept forward, looking to keep his nose clean.

Though he didn’t get a strong run, he would end up with a sixth place finish.

“I have had terrible luck so far to start the year, so to end up with a sixth place finish is just fine with me,” he said. “I think we might be back out next week, so hopefully we can improve on that.”

Matt Mitchell Racing would like to thank, A.R.T. Enterprises, MPD Racing, Parker Performance Engines, Caliagua, Bell Helmets, and Hedman Hedders for their support in 2013.
