The form Sprintcar driver of the 2012–13 season James McFadden claimed the victory honours in last Saturday night’s (April 20) $10,000 Digger’s Cup at Morris Park Speedway in Dubbo, Central Western NSW.

McFadden, who is the current Australian and World Series Sprintcar Champion, put on a sensational display throughout the 30–lap by leading the entire distance and fending off the challenges of defending Digger’s Cup champion Robbie Farr to score the $10,000 winner’s cheque.

After he had started from position six in the field, Robbie Farr finished strongly, but narrowly missed out on making it back–to–back Digger’s Cup wins and had to settle for second.

In what was one of the drives of his short career, Toby Bell-Bowen rounded out the podium finishers in third place. Bell-Bowen, along with his older brother Roddy, made his Morris Park Speedway debut, and Toby certainly adapted to the track quickly.

Outside the podium finishers in fourth was an impressive Max Johnston, who finished ahead of Trevor Green, who was a late nomination aboard the NSW # 40 car owned by Harry Delamont, pole sitter Garry Brazier, a hard charging Matt Smith from position 20, Adrian Maher, Darryl Campbell, and in 10th was South Australian teenager Jake Tranter. The remaining finishers included James Thompson, Roddy Bell-Bowen, Victorian Brett Smith, Jackson Delamont, Eddie Lumbar, Steve Lynch, and the final finisher Steve Caunt.

Locals, Jeremy Cross and Mark Blyton, endured a tough night and consequently it robbed them of qualifying into the Digger’s Cup deciding feature race.

Earlier in the night, the heat–race wins were shared between Garry Brazier (x 2), Jackson Delamont, Darryl Campbell, Toby Bell-Bowen, Max Johnston, Trevor Green, James McFadden, and Adrian Maher.

Morris Park Promoter, Leanne Anning would like to thank all of the race fans, drivers, sponsors, officials and volunteers for making the 2013 Digger’s Cup such a successful event.

“We’re only in our fourth season, but this year’s Digger’s Cup $10,000 has been, by far, the best,” expressed Anning. “Since its inception in 2010, there has been a united effort by many working together to bring the event to Dubbo. We were tested by mother-nature in our first two attempts to run this event, with last year seeing our first champion, Robbie Farr, etched on the trophy. I’m delighted with the increasing response from drivers wanting to support our country track, and I thank each and every person who has helped to make our Digger’s Cup the prestigious event that it is today.”

The 2013–14 season Digger’s Cup the date has already been locked in. It will be held on Saturday night, April 12 in 2014.

In the lead up to the Digger’s Cup, there was an ANZAC Appeal Fundraiser at Tyreright in Dubbo and the drivers raised a total of over $600.
