Marks Claims Two More Heat Race Wins and Two More Feature Top 10s

From Inside Line Promotions

Abbottstown, PA — (April 29, 2013) — Brent Marks continued his heat race dominance with a pair of wins over the weekend.

Marks charged from third to claim his track-best third heat race win at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., on Friday before earning his track-leading seventh heat victory – and sixth in a row – at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday.

“We’ve been really, really strong in the heat races this year,” he said. “A lot of it is because I’ve gotten pretty lucky and been able to start up front. We’ve had good cars early on and have been trying to get the success to follow through the feature. Things haven’t gone our way and we haven’t been able to make up any ground.

“It’s great to win heat races, but that’s not what makes the money.”

Despite two more feature top 10s – raising his total to 12 in 15 races this season – Marks and his team are reverting to a different car for this weekend’s event at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday and the 10th annual Weldon Sterner Memorial at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday.

“We won my first race of the season in the other car,” he said. “We’ve run it probably 10 shows and the worst it has finished is seventh. I kinda lost my confidence here in the last three weeks with this car so we just need to build it back up. I feel very comfortable and confident in that other car.”

After his impressive heat win last Friday, Marks started the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions feature on the inside of the fifth row. He quickly found his way to the top groove and was in a thick battle with a handful of cars in the top 10 before the half-mile track began to take rubber.

“I thought I had a good car on the top, but unfortunately it rubber down on the bottom,” he said. “I’d say around lap eight or nine the track really start to take the rubber and it was like racing on asphalt after that.”

Almost every car was committed to the bottom groove for the second half of the race and Marks rode around in 10th place until the checkered flag waved.

While the track was more maneuverable in Saturday’s feature at Lincoln Speedway, Marks struggled to work his way through the field. After the handicapping system started him 12th, Marks picked up a trio of positions, but was unable to close the gap on a top five.

“We just weren’t that good,” he said. “I made a couple of moves and we tried to get through there and things just didn’t pan out. We were a ninth-place car.”

It was his eighth top 10 this season at Lincoln Speedway, where he ranks third in the standings.

Marks is tied for fifth in the points at Williams Grove Speedway.
